The ultimate aim of the Club is to welcome new members, provide a network of like minded women and assist with finding your way around Zagreb. Zagreb is a friendly place to live in but as with any new "home" finding your way especially when you first arrive is always best done following tips from women who have found themselves in the same situation. The members of our club are happy to assist you. When you join we can introduce you to members who will be able to answer your questions and give you advice on anything from finding a doctor to where to find soyasauce. Also for that purpose the Club has with the help from members published a book Living in Zagreb. You can purchase the book at the next General Meeting, The IWC office, The British Council, The American International School of Zagreb or at Algoritam bookstore on Gajeva 1 next to Hotel Dubrovnik in the center of town. Living in ZagrebThe new edition of Living in Zagreb is a 300 pages practical guidebook in English containing all essential information for people moving to Zagreb from abroad.Review by Melissa Bane ( May 2006) Moving to any new city can feel overwhelming. The good news is that upon arrival in Zagreb, you have access to a comprehensive and insightful resource found in Living in Zagreb. Going far beyond the usual scope of an average city-guide, this book is like having a close friend at hand to inform you of all the ins and outs of life in Croatia’s capital. Your new friend (we’ll call her LIZ) provides every detail you might need from hairdresser recommendations to more obscure topics such as what to do if your phone is shut off. But it doesn’t stop there. The book is designed to address the four main questions any newcomer repeatedly finds himself or herself asking: What is it called? How do I find it? What shall I do? Who do I ask? LIZ provides answers across twelve chapters ranging from administrative formalities of settling in to shopping, transport, school recommendations, navigating the health care system and day trips outside the city and beyond. What sets this book apart is its attention to detail. Any city guide can recommend a good restaurant. LIZ will go so far as to specify what languages a particular handyman speaks to providing a drawing of a cow with the cuts of meat identified and translated into Croatian! LIZ even offers book recommendations on the history and cultural background of Croatia and the Balkan region. (She has even been known to inform a local or two about life in Zagreb!) It is no accident that LIZ has all the critical answers. The book is the consolidation of experiences of the members of the International Women’s Club of Zagreb. And a friend with that much experience is one that no one should go without. Zagreb has been changing rapidly in the past five years and will continue to do so. It is becoming a more sophisticated, attractive and modern city to live in. But it still is difficult to find transparent and accessible information on most practical issues for newcomers. This book is a unique and independent source of information and therefor an absolute must have when you are living in Zagreb The use of the book will save anyone a lot of time when searching around shops, services and bureaucratic procedures. For anyone not yet speaking the language and not yet having a network of local people to help this is a true key to survival! All revenues from the book will go to charity causes of the IWCZ (Charity). ChildrenMembers of the International Women’s Club can join the Mother and Toddler Group. The group welcomes all mothers who are members and have young children. The group gathers every Thursday at a different location, at a members’ house a playground or retaurant. The IWCZ M&T offers a friendly environment for mothers and children alike . It is an excellent opportunity to exchange information on schools and activities or tips on how to find a baby sit and much much more. Once you have registered as a member you will be able to register with the groups mailing list and attend its meetings and activities. To register please fill in the form and send it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
