Charity

The Club raises money for charity by organizing various events. The funds will benefit mainly women and children causes, the physically and/or socially disadvantaged and elderly people – all over Croatia.

Events that fund charity goals are a.o. charity lunches/dinners or teas, our Christmas Bazaar (Dec) and various initiatives during the year for worthy causes.

Our members also collects toys, books, hygienic products and non-perishable food items every year to give to individuals or families in poor areas, regions  affected by natural disasters, or towards other people in need in Croatia as currently refugees/migrants.

The club has a Charity Committee consisting of 10-15 women who gather once a month to discuss requests, coordinate and organize events and liaise with the beneficiaries, including visiting them.

The IWCZ Christmas Bazaar

The tradition of the IWCZ Christmas Bazaar goes back over 20 years and has become a popular event in the holiday season. We invite the international community to share their holiday traditions, typical dishes and souvenirs with the local community. The bazaar is a fundraising event, so we also invite Croatian charities to raise awareness for their causes, and all proceeds from the bazaar are donated to a beneficiary.

Highlights of the 2014 IWCZ Christmas Bazaar were:
  • 43 country tables selling international foods & beverages, crafts & gifts!
  • International dance & song performances!
  • Raffle with 60+ prizes, and a tombola!
  • Champagne corner, Julius Meinl coffee corner
  • Charity tables, Book & vintage stall, bouncy castle for children

With the proceeds of over 270.000 Kn the IWCZ purchased life-saving equipment for the Neonatal Unit of the Clinical Hospital “Sveti Duh” in Zagreb. Visitors to the Bazaar remarked what a wonderful and lively atmosphere it is with the scent of cookies, mulled wine and flavorful international dishes. Festive tunes fill the air and lots of self-made gifts, seasonal decorations, hard-to-get international products & treats, books & clothing are waiting for buyers. A program of dance and song performances entertains the audience and lots of tombola and raffle prizes found lucky winners. We are thankful to prof. dr. Tatjana Josipović who has been Patron of the IWCZ Christmas Bazaar for the past 5 years.
